I went out today to take some photos at Knockbeg College in Carlow. I decided to take photos on manual settings and to try out different options. Below are four images taken in the same location but with four different shutter speeds.

As you will see the first image is really bright and burnt out. This is because the shutter was open for 3 seconds and the amount of light the camera let in resulted in an over exposed image. The next three images are darker as the shutter was faster resulting in less light and a darker image.
